Susana Balbo

Susana Balbo is a family-run winery, focused on high-end wine production, located in Mendoza, Argentina, at the foothills of the Andes mountain range. It was founded in 1999 by Susana Balbo, Argentina’s first female winemaker.

Creating means having the courage to be vulnerable. An entrepreneurial, revolutionary and pioneering spirit performs best when driven by courage and tenacity. This intrepid spirit is reflected in the winery’s history. Despite several failed attempts and a country’s fragile social and economical context, Susana finally founded her own winery, thus achieving her lifelong dream: to create wines with her signature personality under her own name.

After ten years of sustained growth on international markets, another of Susana’s biggest dream came true when her children, José and Ana, decided to join her team and work side by side with her in order to continue to build up the family legacy. The new family generation and a team of over a hundred people work daily to deliver high-end wines with a methodic care for detail; thus seeking to make the wine industry grow in terms of

investigation, innovation and sustainability. In essence, Susana Balbo’s large family share the same spirit and conviction: a great passion for making high quality wines.

Our winemaking team focuses on a work philosophy that combines a deep knowledge of Argentina’s best soils, an endless curiosity and passion for art and science behind winemaking abilities, and a strong commitment to sustainable practices.. These convictions led to the creation of four lines of wines: Nosotros, Susana Balbo Signature, Crios and BenMarco.

Susana Balbo Crios Malbec

Region: Argentina, Mendoza
Carton: 6 x 750ml

It is a fresh, pure expression, with aromas of violets, cherries, mocha and spice. Juicy tannins and balanced acidity complement perfectly ripe red fruit flavors, while a subtle hint of oak adds complexity.

Joaquín Hidalgo described it as “A textbook Malbec (…) expressive, sunny red, intense but yet easygoing” for Vinous.

Susana Balbo Crios Rose Of Malbec

Region: Argentina, Mendoza
Carton: 6 x 750ml

It is fresh, dry and delicate, with aromas and flavors of strawberry and gooseberry leading to a balanced palate and crisp finish.

Crios rosé was imagined as a new way to enjoy Argentina’s beloved varietal, elaborated in a lighter, more delicate style. The wine critic James Suckling described it as “Delicious fruit, vivid finish. Always fresh”.

FOOD PAIRING: Fish, fresh greens or grilled chicken.

Susana Balbo Crios Torrontes

Carton: 6 x 750ml

Crios Torrontés is sourced from the highest Andean vineyards, Valle de Uco and Cafayate. It is crisp, refreshing and aromatic, with a bouquet of citrus fruits, passion fruit, lychee and white flowers. Lively acidity, a hint of creaminess and a long, mineral finish add depth and balance to the palate.

Susana is known as the “Queen of Torrontés” for her role in transforming Torrontés from an unknown blending grape into Argentina’s star white varietal.

FOOD PAIRING: Asian food and fusion cuisine, white meats, crab and fish, salads, citrus or creamy desserts.

Susana Balbo Signature Malbec

Region: Argentina, Mendoza
Carton: 6 x 750ml

This Malbec is one of the most cherished wines from my winery. Produced with grapes from Paraje Altamira, Valle de Uco in Mendoza, at 1,150 m.a.s.l. (3,770 ft.), it was aged for 13 months in French oak. Intense yet affable, this wine expresses all the power, elegance and pleasure that Argentine Malbec can offer.

Joaquín Hidalgo, wine critic, described it for Vinous: “voluminous and generous on the tongue with a lengthy, herbal finish”.

FOOD PAIRING: Red meat and pork, poultry and stuffed pasta.

Susana Balbo Signature White Blend

This White Blend is a combination of Torrontés, Semillón and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, all sourced from Valle de Uco. It is a fresh and balanced wine with outstanding notes of white flowers and green apples, and an elegant and subtle citrus touch.

The wine critic Tim Akin described it as: “A pioneering, mould-breaking white blend that seems to get better with every vintage”.
