Wine Range

Paulmara Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon

Region: Australia, Barossa Valley, South Australia
Current Vintage: 2020 | Cartons 6 x 750ml

The 2020 growing season was dry with winter and spring rains being well below average. Flowering unfortunately was interrupted with frosts and very strong winds, coupled with very cold nights. December was hot and dry with 11 days over 35C and 8 days over 40C.

As a result, bunch size was below average with smaller than normal berry size. A mild February with approximately 20mm of rain on 1st February slowed down phenological ripening allowing us to hang the grapes to ensure full flavour ripeness, whilst retaining natural acidity. Yields across the board were down between 50-80% depending on the vineyard. Wines produced, have saturated colours, intense aromatics and great flavour concentration and length. Overall an exceptional year!

Complex aromas of Moroccan spices play a secondary role.
Rich mouth-coating flavours of forest fruits, dense midpalate with savoury French oak spice and fine grain tannins. Ironstone mineral edge with long finish.

Paulmara Sangiovese

Region: Australia, Barossa Valley, South Australia
Current Vintage: 2021 | Cartons 6 x 750ml

The region received good early rains in autumn 2020 to replenish some moisture in the profiles, after coming off the driest back to back seasons ever experienced.  Winter rains were average and those vineyards that supplemented with irrigation to get moisture to depth set the vines up for spring growth and spring rains were above average. Temperatures in November were above average without any significant weather events paving the way for fantastic fruit set. January 24th was the only day that the region experienced temperature above 40ºC. Not surprisingly, the subsequent mild conditions meant bunch and berry size remained average, achieving a great balance between quality and quantity. A vintage that can be described as almost “perfect”, not only ideal sugar ripeness but also physiological ripeness for quality wine production.

Paulmara Syna Shiraz

Region: Australia, Barossa Valley, South Australia
Current Vintage: 2018 | Cartons 6 x 750ml

The fruit is sourced from estate grown low yielding Shiraz (1654 clone) vines from Block1A that were planted in 1995. A great follow-up to the 2019 vintage! It will be interesting to see how this wine develops in the bottle over the next 5-8 years. Well suited to Mediterranean dishes, spit roasted lamb or chargrilled quail.
